MK 18 CQBR (Close Quarter Battle Rifle)
The Mk 18 is a short-barreled variant of the M4 carbine. Chambered in 5.56x45mm NATO and features a 262mm (10.3in) barrel compared to the M4’s (14.5in) barrel. It is the weapon of choice for CQB when the maximum engagement distance is expected to be less than 300m. The CQBR, designated Mk 18 Mod 0, is a variant of the M4 family of carbines. Designed for Close Quarters Battle (CQB), the CQBR is significantly shorter than its M4 / M4A1 cousins, with a barrel-length of 10.3 inches compared to the M4's 14.5 inches. Like the Colt Commando previously used by US Special Operations Forces, the CQBR is an attempt to combine the hitting power of an assault rifle with the compactness of a sub machine gun. Typical uses for such a weapon include hostage rescue, VIP protection and operations in the tight spaces found on ships.
