FN MAG on Challenger Mount
The Belgian FN MAG entered into production in 1958. It is one of the most widespread machine gun designs and is used in more than 90 countries around the globe. It is still manufactured in Belgium and produced under license in several countries including Argentina, Egypt, the US and the UK. It can mounted on vehicles or carried by infantry. The US version is known as the M240.
The MAG Model 60-20 is an automatic, air-cooled, gas operated machine gun, firing belt fed 7.62 x 51mm NATO ammo from an open bolt. The MAG uses a series of proven design concepts from other successful firearms, for example the locking mechanism is modeled on that of the Browning M1918 BAR, which FN produced under license with some adaptions, and the feed and trigger mechanisms are from the WW2-era MG 42 universal machine gun.
